Where mentoring helps

Support at every stage of the NMC process

Most cases never reach a hearing. Wherever you are, a mentor helps you understand what's happening and what you can do next.

  1. Stage 1

    Referral

Mentoring helps you make sense of the letter, plan your first steps and find the right union or legal support.

  2. Stage 2

    Screening

Mentoring helps you understand what the NMC is looking at and start reflecting early.

  3. Stage 3

    Investigation

Mentoring helps you gather evidence of learning and write a reflection that shows insight.

  4. Stage 4

    Case examiners

Mentoring helps you prepare your response, showing insight, remediation and strengthened practice.

  5. If needed

    Hearing or meeting

Mentoring helps you know what to expect and practise talking about your learning.

  6. Afterwards

    Outcome and return

Mentoring helps you work within any order, rebuild confidence and get back to work.

An interim order can be considered at any stage if there is a risk to the public. Fit 2 Practise is independent and not affiliated with the NMC, and mentoring is not legal advice or representation. See the NMC Fitness to Practise process explained for more detail.

The mentorship work have been so appreciated and acknowledged during the hearing hence the panel gave me another chance. I want to say a big thank you for all your support Cathryn. I got a 9 months suspension without review. I take it as a win. Thank you for everything!”

Mentoring FAQ

Questions about FtP mentoring

Still unsure whether mentoring is right for you? A free introduction call is the easiest way to find out.

A mentor helps you understand the process, reflect honestly on the concerns, gather evidence of learning and prepare for each stage. We give easy-to-understand feedback and support you emotionally too, from someone who has been through it.
Mentoring is educational and supportive. It isn't legal advice and we don't represent you. Many registrants have a union or regulatory solicitor for legal advice and representation, and a mentor alongside for reflection, learning and support. Our article Do I need a solicitor for an NMC investigation? explains the difference.
Yes. Feedback on reflections is a core part of mentoring. We help you make it honest, specific and focused on insight and what you now do differently. It stays your reflection, in your words. See also how to structure an NMC reflective statement.
Every case is different, so we talk through what support would help, how sessions work and the cost on a free, no-obligation introduction call before you commit. Sessions take place online, so you can join from wherever you are.
Yes. Everything you share with your mentor is treated in the strictest confidence, and your information will never be shared with any third party.
